The region offers game viewing, birding, boat cruises, tiger fishing, cultural experiences, guided hikes, scenic drives and visits to protected areas including uMkhuze, Manyoni and Hluhluwe-iMfolozi. Sodwana Bay and St Lucia are also accessible as longer day trips or onward destinations.

Three nights is ideal, allowing guests to combine a safari with a Lake Jozini boat cruise and another cultural, scenic or wellness experience, while still having time to enjoy the hotel. Two nights provides a good introduction, but a longer stay offers a fuller experience of Zululand.

Ghost Mountain Inn can be visited throughout the year. Summer is green, hot and rich in birdlife, while winter is generally drier, with mild days, cooler mornings and good wildlife viewing. Each season offers a different experience.

Summer, November to February: approximately 20°C to 32°C, generally hot and humid with seasonal rainfall and thunderstorms.

Autumn, March to May: approximately 15°C to 29°C, with warm days and gradually cooler evenings.

Winter, June to August: approximately 10°C to 27°C, usually dry with warm days and cool mornings and evenings.

Spring, September to November: approximately 16°C to 30°C, with warming temperatures and increasing summer rainfall.

Ghost Mountain Inn is located in a low-risk malaria area in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. While precautions are generally not required, travellers should consult their healthcare provider before travel.

Pack lightweight, comfortable clothing, sun protection, a hat, closed walking shoes and swimwear. Neutral-coloured clothing is useful for safaris, while a warm layer is recommended for early morning game drives and cooler winter evenings. Binoculars, insect repellent and any personal medication are also useful.
