Join us for a 2-night birding weekend which includes a morning in uMkhuze Game Reserve, home to Trumpeter Hornbills and Pink-Throated Twinspots, a gentle walk traversing the dam in front of the hotel into the Mkuze riverbed, where a large number of birds both water and open savannah species are to be seen, and a boat cruise on Lake Jozini, offering spectacular views and the opportunity to view game as well resident bird species such as Pygmy Geese, Lesser Jacanas and Fish Eagles.
This is a wonderful opportunity to boost your birding skills and assist with vital conservation work. The weekend includes a remarkable fig forest walk, meandering the beautiful uMkhuze River under the magnificent canopy of giant sycamore figs, the oldest of which is estimated at 450 years. The silence of the forest is broken by a multitude of bird calls typified by the wail of Trumpeter Hornbills, while special sightings have included the Pels Fishing Owl, African Broad Bill and the Blue Mantled Flycatcher. Guests will also learn about the process involved in bird ringing, and participate in tagging migratory and endemic birds.
