Spend a weekend experiencing the living culture of Zululand, with traditional food, storytelling, music, craft and the colour and energy of our Spirit of Zululand Procession.
Created together with our local community and with the support of KwaZulu-Natal Tourism & Film, the weekend brings the traditions, stories, food and people of the region together at Ghost Mountain Inn.
Stay for two nights and experience the full weekend, from Friday evening around the boma to Saturday’s procession, cultural performances, market, live music and dinner under the fig trees.

The Weekend Itinerary
Friday, 2 October
Living Traditions Experience
The weekend begins with a hands-on introduction to some of the traditions of Zululand.
Mealie meal grinding
Try the traditional method of grinding maize by hand and learn about its place in everyday life.
Zulu beading
Join local beadworkers for an introduction to Zulu beadwork and create a simple bracelet of your own to take home.
Traditional beer brewing
Learn about the preparation of traditional beer and its cultural significance.
Fireside storytelling
As the sun begins to set, gather around the fire for stories about Zululand and the significance of Umkhosi Womhlanga.
Boma Dinner and Zulu dancing
The evening continues with an outdoor Boma Dinner celebrating the flavours of Zululand, followed by traditional Zulu dancing.
Saturday, 3 October
Spirit of Zululand Procession
Join us as local maidens make their way through Mkuze towards Ghost Mountain Inn in a colourful procession celebrating Zulu culture and Umkhosi Womhlanga traditions. On arrival, they are welcomed by the Ghost Mountain Inn Staff Choir, followed by a programme of traditional dancing, music, poetry, and cultural performances. Commentary throughout the morning will share the meaning and significance behind the celebrations.
Spirit of Zululand Market (12:00–15:00)
From midday, the gardens take on a relaxed festival atmosphere. Meet local makers, browse African beadwork, jewellery, and crafts, taste Hluhluwe pineapples, and enjoy dishes from the Ghost Mountain Inn kitchen. With live music by local artist Sondela throughout the afternoon, it is a great time to unwind and experience the food, craft, music and people of northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Saturday Afternoon & Evening
Spend the late afternoon at leisure, or book an uMkhuze game drive, bird walk, or spa treatment. Gather at 17:00 at the Pool Bar for sundowners , music by Sondela, the Spirit of Zululand Dinner and an outdoor screening of Shaka Zulu.

Friday, 2 October
Boma & Cultural Evening | R475 per person
Join the Living Traditions Experience from 16:30, including mealie meal grinding, Zulu beading and traditional beer brewing, followed by fireside storytelling, Boma Dinner and Zulu dancing.
Saturday, 3 October
Spirit of Zululand Experience | R150 per person
Join us from 09:45 for the Spirit of Zululand Procession, official welcome and traditional dancing, music and cultural performances, followed by the Spirit of Zululand Market from 12:00–15:00.
Food and beverages at the market are available to purchase.
